Technics’ (328 pages, 850 ill.) 
A comprehensive morpho-genetic analysis and a syn- 
thesis of characteristics by J.-G. Helmcke is comple- 
nented by several authors with descriptions of the 
theoretical basis. Contributions by the IL demon- 
strate methods, experiments and observations by 
which the processes of formation of living objects 
may be recognised. 'Morphological development of 
shells' by A.-M. Schmid presents the current position 
of diatom research. 
The book is concurrently published by the Karl Krimer 
Verlag Stuttgart and the Cramer Verlag Brunswick. 
The latter also published J.-G. Helmcke's Atlas 
of Diatoms. 
a ‘Subjective Standpoints in Architecture

This publication which marks the 20th anniversary 
»f the foundation of the IL comprises contributions 
and presentations for the colloquium 'Subjective 
Standpoints' which was held on the 14. to 18.05.1984

each year in a different country concerns itself 
with shells, space frames and wide-spanned surface 
structures.

International Conference on Lightweight Structures 
in Architecture 
This conference provides a platform for discussions 
of architectural, engineering and environmental prob- 
lems. Particular emphasis will be given to practical 
application of lightweight surface structures.

The India government is presently preparing a travei 
ling exhibition which will show artisan and indus-- 
trial Indian products. Architects of International 
reputation, i.e. Johnson, Moore, Pei, Hollein, } 
Rudofski and Otto, were invited. to prepare designs 
for objects of everyday use which were to be made by 
Indian craftsmen. Thus clothes, lamps, cutlery, 
crockery, tables, chairs, building components and 
tents are being manufactured. These will be exhibitec 
at the Cooper-Hewitt-Museum in New York. In coopera- 
tion with the School of Architecture in Ahmedabad 
two tents are being made for this project: one a 
yurt-type tent, the other an undulating tent which 
will be painted by P. Sagara of Ahmedabad. 
DIPLOMATIC CLUB, RIYADH 
The leisure centre of the new Diplomatic Club of 
Riyadh has now entered the constructional phase. 
A wall of buildings reminiscent of the traditional 
Arab townwall encloses an oasis with its central 
tented pavilion (ref. also IL Info 23). 
On the outerside three tent roofs, on the inside a 
cable net roof will sonn be hung from the perimeter 
wall. A tent covered with painted, baked glass panels: 
will be set up in the middle of the garden.
